What we check
- Active USDOT number — the carrier is registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation.
- Active MC operating authority — the carrier is authorized for interstate for-hire operations.
- Household-goods authority — the authority specifically covers moving household goods across state lines.
- Matching company identity — the business name and contact details on the application match the FMCSA record.
When we check
At application, and again periodically while a mover is in our network. If authority becomes inactive, the mover stops receiving requests.
What verification is not
A registration check confirms a carrier is legally authorized to move household goods between states. It is not a guarantee of price, timing or service quality. Always compare written estimates, read the contract and ask about valuation coverage.
Check any mover yourself
- Ask for the mover's USDOT number.
- Search it on the FMCSA company lookup at safer.fmcsa.dot.gov.
- Confirm the status is active and the authority includes household goods.
- Make sure the name on the record matches the name on your estimate and contract.
